Mayor John DeStefano, Jr.
From The Desk of The Mayor
 Dear Friends:
This week we will celebrate the 225th birthday of New Haven. This is an important time to reflect upon what our City has achieved over time but also to unite around what we can be in the future. These are difficult times we are living in. But, now, more than ever, we must come together to care for one another and to build a stronger New Haven.

As the new year begins, there are many cultural opportunities to explore throughout New Haven. Here’s what’s happening in our City this week:

Three Kings Day

Tuesday, many New Haven Residents will take part in the annual Three Kings Day celebration throughout the City. This is a festive event that will kick off at City Hall beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Paul Rudolph Exhibition

Between now and February 6th, visit the “Model City: Buildings and Projects by Paul Rudolph for Yale and New Haven” exhibition in the Paul Rudolph Hall of the Yale Architecture Gallery. The exhibition focuses on 13 key designs that Paul Rudolph created for Yale and New Haven, and includes original drawings, prints, photographs, and newly created architectural models.

Stories and Art

On Sunday, January 11th at 1p.m., the Yale University Art Gallery, located on 1111 Chapel St., will be holding “Stories and Art.” At this event, Yale students and Gallery faculty will relate folktales and myths from across the globe to works of art in the Gallery’s collection. All ages are welcome, and drawing materials will be provided for older children. For more information, please call 203-432-0611 or visit the Gallery’s website at www.artgallery.yale.edu.

Green Tip of the Week

Set back your thermostat at night to save on your heating bill. If you set back your thermostat 10 degrees for an 8-hour period (such as when you are sleeping), you can save 10% on your heating bill. For New Haven's approximately 52,000 housing units, the total annual savings would be nearly $7 million!
