Planning Documents
The City of New Haven Office of Economic Development takes care to create planning documents to guide the process. We invite the public to peruse the planning documents that are provided on this site.
Parking Planning: As our retail space in downtown New Haven fills up, new apartments come online, and this development project begins, one of the most common questions we receive is, "What about parking?" Rest assured, we are focusing on the downtown parking situation. You may be interested in taking a look at the following documents:
.
New Haven Parking Strategic Plan: This details the strategic plan for the downtown parking in New Haven. It contains information about the supply of parking in different areas throughout the downtown region, and lays out how the future demand can be planned for, and met.
.
Detailed Parking Plan: This document quantifies the parking supply and demand quantifies the parking needs for this and other known development projects, includes quantified parking supply and demand, and develops a schedule to ensure that any interim measures that are needed are articulated

Parking Plan Update #1: Over the past sixteen months, the City of New Haven’s departments have been closely monitoring the progress of major development projects, as well as the supply and demand of parking in downtown New Haven. Because several significant changes have taken place, the City felt that it would be wise to bring the same departments together to formally update the data, document the adjustments, and analyze the information to be able to recommend any changes needed to the parking plan. Accordingly, in April 2006, the City of New Haven brought together the same partners - the New Haven Parking Authority, the New Haven School Construction Office, Traffic & Parking Department, City Plan Department, and Economic Development Department. Together, these departments secured updated capacity and utilization data.
Design Guidelines: Another chief area of input from the public has been with regard to the architectural design and character of the new buildings that will be part of the project. We have asked Herbert Newman & Partners, who developed the original concept design, to develop design guidelines for the project. These are intended to be used as the name suggests - as guidelines - for the architectural design and character.
