General Reference

The Library provides current and historical information on many subjects. Presently, reference services at the Main Library are divided into the following areas:

• General Reference (Information Center, First Floor)
  
• Business, Job, and Nonprofit Services (First Floor)
• Local History (First Floor)

Materials and services include:

• Telephone reference for answers to most questions (call 946-8130 ext. 101)
• Email reference service
• Student research assistance
• Databases
• Connecticut state government documents
• New Haven government documents
• Local, state and federal legal reference material
• Telephone books
• Consumer and medical self-help material
• Newspapers, magazines, and journals, including past issues of the New Haven Register.
• Internet access for the public
