SEMINAR TO COVER HOUSING CODE ORDINANCES
(8/6/2009) NEW HAVEN- The Fair Rent Commission and the Livable City Initiative Bureau of the City of New Haven will present a free seminar, `Moving In/Moving Out – Tenants and Landlords Responsibilities,’ Tuesday August 18, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at New Haven City Hall 165 Church Street second floor aldermanic meeting room number one.
The seminar will cover the City of New Haven Housing Code Ordinance which establishes the “standards governing the condition and maintenance of dwellings;” “supplied utilities and facilities other physical things and conditions essential to make residential dwellings safe,” sanitary and fit for occupancy, in addition to, “establishing minimum standards governing the condition of dwelling units offered for rent,” and establishing certain responsibilities and duties of owners and occupants of dwellings.
Established by State Statutes and City Ordinance the Fair Rent Commission is responsible for controlling and eliminating excessive rental charges in residential housing in the City of New Haven, in addition to receiving complaints concerning services and conditions of a dwelling. The Fair Rent Commission also administers the Fair Housing Program, which receives inquiries concerning housing discrimination. Rafael Ramos, Deputy Director Housing Code and Enforcement Division, Livable City Initiative Bureau will conduct the presentation.
