    Storm Clean-Up Update

(2/9/2013) New Haven Storm Clean-Up Update

(New Haven, CT) City of New Haven crews, with assistance from the National Guard, are continuing to work around the clock to clear City Streets.

The priority areas to be cleared first are the streets around hospitals, then the main arterial roads. The New Haven Fire Department is directing this operation, ensuring that there are access routes into all areas of the City. Because even plowing vehicles were getting stuck in the snow, the City is using payloaders to first clear enough snow from the streets that they can then be plowed.

Because there is such a massive amount of snow to move, it could be at least a couple days until side streets are reached. The travel ban for New Haven will remain in place throughout the day tomorrow, Sunday, February 10th and schools will be closed on Monday, February 11th.

We have seen an increase in carbon monoxide incidents throughout the City. PLEASE clear any snow from exterior furnace and hot water heater vents to prevent carbon monoxide build-up within your home.

The City would like to remind residents of the following:

    • Call 911 for emergencies only.

    • Report all non-emergency storm related issues to the City’s Emergency Operations Center at 203-946-8221.

    • Residents and contractors clearing snow from their cars and property, should not dump that snow into the street

    • As residents begin to shovel out, please clear snow from fire hydrants located near your property and if your sidewalk includes a curb ramp (at a street intersection), please shovel that so the sidewalk is passable for wheelchair use.

    • The travel ban in New Haven will remain in effect throughout the day tomorrow, Sunday, February 10th

    • Schools will remain closed on Monday, February 11th

Residents can sign up to receive automatic storm updates (via email or reverse 911 call) by going to http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/EmergencyInfo/optin.asp

Residents can also call 203-946-SNOW (7669) to hear the latest pre-recorded storm update.
