NEW HAVEN POLICE - VIGILANT AFTER BOSTON BOMBINGS

    (4/16/2013)

Yesterday’s bombings in Boston’s Back Bay sparked a nationwide alert and grim reminder that tragedy can strike anywhere and at any time. As authorities delve into what is expected to be an intense investigation, Police Departments across the country are stepping up efforts to protect their

    communities.

Shortly after 3:00 PM yesterday, the New Haven Police Department held Officers from the first shift through the evening. The added Officers supplemented the normal patrol detail and were assigned to inspect and protect key infrastructure as well as several highly attended events.

The NHPD has been coordinating efforts with its law enforcement partners including the Yale University Police Department, Metropolitan Transit Authority Police Department, Amtrak Police Department and Federal Bureau

    of Investigation.

At 8:34 PM last evening, New Haven Police received a call from the New York Police Department’s Public Safety Answering Center. They said they’d received a call threatening a bombing on the New Haven Green. The call

was placed from the psychiatric ward of New York’s Belleview Hospital Center on 1st Avenue in lower Manhattan.

New Haven Officers responded and conducted a thorough check. Nothing out of the ordinary was discovered. Traffic was not inconvenienced. The report was a hoax and Detectives were informed.

The NHPD is asking that people remain observant as they go about their normal activities. If someone sees something suspicious, they are urged to phone Police at 203-946-6316.

The NHPD and its partner agencies will continue to assess the need for heightened Police presence, based largely on highly attended special events, but need to remind people that there have been no tangible threats received.
