CITY TAKES STEPS TO MOVE FORWARD WITH PROMOTIONS AFTER RICCI
(11/13/2009) NEW HAVEN- The City of New Haven took another step today in an effort to find closure to the Ricci litigation. The City, today, filed a proposed order in District Court outlining a process for promotions from the 2003 fire department captain and lieutenant exams. The order allows those Ricci plaintiffs who would have been promoted based on their performance on the 2003 exams to be promoted. The proposal would also give the City the ability to consider promoting others who also would have been eligible for promotion but were not plaintiffs in the case.
These exams have been the subject of protracted litigation and the City believes and hopes that its proposed process will resolve the issue of promotions.
“We look forward to proceeding with promotions and end this aspect of litigation,” said Victor Bolden, the City’s Corporation Counsel. “Our proposed process allows for transparency so that the results of the 2003 exam will no longer be shrouded in secrecy.”
