MAYOR DESTEFANO EXTENDS ON-STREET PARKING BANS FOR CITY OF NEW HAVEN TO REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL 6:00 AM TUESDAY MARCH 3, 2009
(3/2/2009) NEW HAVEN—The City of New Haven has announced that the current parking ban that is in effect will be extended through 6:00 AM on Tuesday March 3, 2009. This on-street parking ban is imposed in New Haven as follows:
1. No parking on major streets posted as snow emergency routes citywide
2. No parking on streets downtown (all streets within the area bounded by Howe Street, Tower Parkway, Grove Street, State Street and North Frontage Road)
3. No parking within 25 feet of any intersection citywide and no parking in front of any bus stop citywide
Cars parking in violation of the parking ban may be ticketed and/or towed.
The Parking Ban will remain in effect until 6:00 AM Tuesday March 3, 2009. Please listen to your local news stations, check the city web site at www.cityofnewhaven.com or call 946-7669 (SNOW) for updated information.
Please note: Parking garages and off-street parking lots downtown are still open during snow emergencies. Residents are encouraged to use these facilities as an alternative to parking on the street.
In residential areas, residents are encouraged NOT to park on the odd numbered side of the street (numbers ending in 1,3,5,7,9) so that snow plows can clear the street to the curb.
Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. urges the public’s cooperation in complying with the parking ban in order to assist the City’s plowing operations.
Throughout this weather emergency, the City of New Haven will utilize the 3N Emergency Notification System to communicate parking ban information and any related service changes to residents. As the system currently stands, all land-line phone numbers currently listed in the White Pages in New Haven participate in the program and receive phone calls during weather and other emergencies. However, residents whose phone phone numbers are unlisted and those who have chosen to place their phone numbers on the national Do Not Call List, do not receive these calls. Residents are all strongly encouraged to opt-in and add their phone numbers to the City’s notification system so that they do not miss-out urgent information. Residents can opt-in by visiting: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/EmergencyInfo/optin.asp
