(10/9/2007) Public Urged to Provide Information Related to Attempted Robbery that Resulted in the Shooting of a 15-year-old

NEW HAVEN- Over the Columbus Day Weekend, New Haven Police arrested three individuals responsible for at least four robberies in the City. On Sunday morning, New Haven police officers arrested 27-year-old Kevin Gauvin of 167 Old Foxon Rd in New Haven for committing an attempted commercial robbery at 125 Foxon Blvd., and for a commercial robbery at 1260 Quinnipiac Avenue. The two incidents took place within minutes of one another.

At approximately 12:42 a.m., Gauvin entered 1260 Quinnipiac Avenue, brandishing a large kitchen knife and demanded money from the store clerk. The clerk, gave Gauvin the money and left. Immediately thereafter, at 12:47 a.m., as officers were in the parking lot of a nearby business, a concerned citizen approached the officers and stated that someone was robbing 125 Foxon Blvd. When officers responded they found Gauvin standing inside the business with a mask covering his face and apprehended him. Gauvin was arrested for numerous charges stemming from both incidents.

On Sunday afternoon, New Haven Police arrested two 15-year-old males for committing two unrelated robberies in the Fair Haven neighborhood of the city. The first incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Poplar Street where a 40- year-old resident was beaten with cement blocks and robbed. A few minutes later, 41-year-old woman was walking on Ferry Street near Grafton when she was knocked to the ground and robbed of her purse. Based on information provided by the first victim, officers located the two 15-year-old suspects, as they were robbing the second victim. The two suspects were subsequently arrested for numerous charges related to the two incidents. Both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries. One of the suspects is from New Haven and the other from Hamden.

On Sunday evening, shortly after 9 p.m., a 15-year-old New Haven teenager was shot in an apparent robbery in the area of Humphrey near State Street. The victim reported being robbed by two unknown males of a silver chain. After the robbery the suspects shot the victim in the arm. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated and released from an area hospital.
