ARREST MADE AT TEE-OFF CAFE
(7/25/2007) NEW HAVEN- The New Haven Police Department’s (NHPD) Initiative Unit made an on-site arrest on Tuesday at the Tee-Off Café located at 124 East Pearl Street New Haven. Officers arrested 38 year-old Jaime Sanchez who was accused of making a hand-to-hand sale of cocaine to a confidential witness. In collaboration with the NHPD, statewide personnel executed Sanchez’s arrest. After the arrest Sanchez was found to have 2 grams of cocaine and to be carrying $235.00. Sanchez, a convicted felon, is being held on narcotics charges. A $200,000.00 bond was set for Sanchez as he awaited an arraignment today in New Haven Court.
“We’ve experienced problems with a number of bars throughout the City that have become a nexus of crime. This is clearly a situation in which the owners of the bar are not making an earnest attempt to work with the police and the community to eliminate criminal elements,” said Police Chief Francisco Ortiz. “It is important that the community’s concerns be heard and that the T-Off Cafe cooperate with us and make immediate efforts to keep this element out of that neighborhood.”
Last month, the Taurus Café, another New Haven bar that housed criminal activity and served as the scene to violent incidents in the past, was closed after losing its liquor license.
