PARCXMART DECLINES TO RENEW CONTRACT WITH CITY OF NEW HAVEN; PARCXMART CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN NEW HAVEN AS OF SATURDAY, MARCH 1st
(2/20/2013) (New Haven, CT) Parcxmart, a vendor that has provided pre-paid smart card services for use at City of New Haven parking meters and at over a dozen retail and restaurant establishments since June 2006, has decided not to renew its contract with the City when the current contract expires on Friday, February 28th.
Parcxmart provides pre-paid smart card services for two cards in New Haven: the New Haven City Card and the Elm City Resident Card. As of Saturday, March 1st residents with either cards should be aware that their Parcxmart card (or, in the case of the Elm City Resident Card, the Parcxmart component of their card) will no longer work as an accepted form of payment at the City’s parking meters or at the restaurant and retail establishments where the card is currently accepted.
Residents should consider the amount of money that they “re-load” onto their Parcxsmart cards over the next two weeks, keeping in mind that the card will not work after February 28th. However, all residents are entitled to a refund of money that they have loaded onto the card and can call Parcxmart at 877-929-3050 to obtain a refund.
Jim Travers, the Director of Transportation, Traffic, and Parking noted that the City is looking into providing additional payment options for the City’s parking meters to replace the loss of the Parcxmart card. “Since January 2011, more and more of our parking meters accept credit and debit cards, along with coin,” said Jim Travers, “but we are still looking at other options that will provide even more convenience for residents and visitors to downtown. We may be ready to roll out a new payment option later this summer.”
