    City announces recruitment effort for police & fire

    (10/2/2006) The City of New Haven and the New Haven Police Department will seat the next police academy class in the coming months. The academy will begin in January 2007. Special application packets will be available after 6 October at police headquarters at One Union Avenue, the Division of Training and Education at 710 Sherman Parkway, and at the City’s Department of Human Resources at 200 Orange Street.

    Applications will be accepted for a two-week period from Monday, 16 October - Friday, 27 October. Applications will be accepted and staff onsite to answer questions at police headquarters, One Union Avenue, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    Minimum requirements are as follows:

    • Twenty-one years of age (there is no upper age limit).

    • Must have good English written and verbal skills.

    • Must have at least a high school diploma or GED, although additional education and work experience are strongly preferred.

    • Must be a U.S. citizen.

    • No felony, Class A or B misdemeanor convictions, including convictions involving domestic violence situations.

    • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a valid Connecticut license upon graduation from the academy.

    • Residence within 20 miles of New Haven upon graduation from the academy.

    The City will begin to accept applications for the next Fire Department class beginning Monday, 6 November, at the City’s Department of Human Resources at 200 Orange Street.

    Minimum requirements are as follows:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age (there is no upper age limit).

    • Must have good English written and verbal skills.

    • Must have at least a high school diploma or GED, although additional education and work experience are strongly preferred.

    • Must be a U.S. citizen.

    • Must not have any felony convictions.

    • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a valid Connecticut license upon graduation from the Fire Academy.
