NEW HAVEN RANKS AMONG NATION’S TOP-10 ‘BEST SMALL CITIES ON THE RISE’
(7/20/2014) New Haven has been named one of America’s Best Small Cities on the Rise by SmarterTravel.com. The website placed New Haven in the same category as cities such as Asheville, North Carolina; Portland, Maine; and San Luis Obispo, California. SmarterTravel’s explanation for the ranking pointed to New Haven’s strengths in food and the arts – specifically Yale University’s art museums and theaters, the city’s International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and restaurants including Louis’ Lunch and Pepe’s.
New Haven is drawing an increasingly impressive profile across these and other categories. The International Festival of Arts and Ideas, which just completed its nineteenth iteration this June, hosted over 100,000 visitors, while Yale’s art galleries are complemented by the world-class Peabody Museum of Natural History and a growing number of independent galleries in the city’s Ninth Square district. The city’s culinary profile features a range of globally styled and locally oriented restaurants that have led New Haven to be named the Best Foodie City in America by Livability.com, as well as a numerous other historic and unique pizza restaurants rated among the country’s best.
