    ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL RALLY SET FOR AUGUST 3!

    Community joining together to provide fun, resources, backpacks and school supplies for New Haven students as they get ready to head back to school

    NEW HAVEN – New Haven Public School students and families are invited to the annual Back to School Rally on August 3 for fun activities, access to community resources and free backpacks and school supplies.

    The Back to School Rally will take place on Saturday, August 3 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Floyd Little Athletic Center (Field House) at Hillhouse High School and Goffe Street Park. The event aims to bolster excitement around the upcoming school year and provide families and students with needed supplies and resources.

    Lead sponsors of this event include New Haven Public Schools, the United Way of Greater New Haven, 94.3 WYBC, City of New Haven, Ice the Beef and New Haven Promise. The United Way donated 1,000 backpacks to the event and New Haven Promise provided 500. Students may receive a free backpack if they attend. The backpacks include supplies such as rulers, crayons, notebooks, and pencils. Other donations came from organizations and businesses, including First Student bus company, School Administrators Association, New Haven Federation of Teachers, Gilbane, AFB Management, Wells Fargo Bank, Read to Grow, New Haven Reads, Elm City Communities and Quality Hyundai.

    Numerous volunteers and community partners have come together to make this exciting event possible, with the many sponsors providing supplies and activities.

    The rally features community resource tables with helpful information for parents, as well as various giveaways. Kids will enjoy arts and crafts, games, sports, and obstacle courses. Activities include relay races, dodge ball, kickball, a mountain bike course, climbing wall, bounce houses and more. Also, Ranger Ray from the City’s Parks and Recreation Department will be on hand with fun activities for kids.

    Free backpacks, school supplies, and food are available in limited supply on a first come, first served basis. Raffle prizes include bikes and gift cards.
