    Office Of The Mayor
    Dear Friends

In an effort to engage parents, staff and the community around the collective mission of School Change and helping all kids rise, I’d like to let you know that the new Superintendent of Schools, Garth Harries, is going out to schools in the community to hear directly from New Haven residents.

As part of his Listening Tour, Superintendent Harries has been meeting with parents, staff, local leaders and community groups. The next step is the launch of the Superintendent’s Night Out, which kicked off with an inaugural meeting at Lincoln Bassett School just last week.

The goal at each Listening Tour location is to attract participants not just from specific school location, but also from the surrounding schools and the community at large in order to hear the ideas and concerns of parents, New Haven Public Schools staff, and the community in order to engage everyone in the collective mission of helping kids rise. At each event, Superintendent Harries will give a welcome, and then invite people to participate in a discussion about his three Listening Tour questions:

    1. What do you see as the district’s strengths, and why?

    2. What needs to change and how?

    3. What is your top priority for change?

Senior staff will also be on hand to answer specific questions parents might have about individual schools. All of the Superintendent’s Night Out dates are open to parents, NHPS staff and the public. Coffee and a light meal will be served at each event.

Upcoming dates for Superintendent’s Night Out are listed below and I encourage you to attend!

    • Wednesday, October 2nd, 5:30-7 pm at John Daniels School, 569 Congress Ave.

Introducing the New Haven Prescription Discount Card

Last week, I was proud to announce that the City of New Haven has launched a new benefit for all City residents: the New Haven Prescription Discount Card. The New Haven Prescription Discount Card will be made available to residents at no cost (to the City or to residents) and without regard to age, income, health and health insurance status. The card provides an average of 45% savings on prescriptions as well as savings on vision and hearing care.

Over the next couple of weeks, each residence in New Haven will receive a City of New Haven Prescription Discount Card by direct mail, which they may use at any participating retail pharmacy.

Cards can also be printed out immediately by visiting www.CTRxDiscountCard.comand and selecting New Haven from the drop-down menu. The New Haven Prescription Discount Card is currently accepted at 22 pharmacies in New Haven and 646 pharmacies statewide, with more pharmacies expected to sign on.
