Summer School Camps

Director’s Note

After this long winter I know everyone is looking forward to a summer full of activities, sunshine and fun. You will find many of the old-time favorite programs along with some new and exciting opportunities designed to make this summer one of the best yet. For a list of programs be sure to visit our website at www.cityofnewhaven.com/parks. One of the programs we have been working on is our Summer school camp program. The Parks Department along with the Board of Education will offer you the option of signing up for camp at your child’s summer school site. Each summer school site will offer your child a half day of summer camp immediately following Summer School. We hope that this will enhance your child’s summer experience

New Haven Youth Mountain Bike Race Team

Through teaching and modeling a healthy lifestyle, teamwork, commitment and discipline and how to set attainable goals, it is our intent to build skills, confidence, and self-esteem and open new avenues for success for the youth who join this new program.

Program Introduction:

The Outdoor Adventure Program, in conjunction with the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP), has created a brand new opportunity in New Haven, so young riders can enter the sport, develop their skills and knowledge base and create opportunities to advance their craft.

We are one of Connecticut’s first Parks and Rec. cycling programs, and have managed to keep it extremely affordable, thanks to successful solicitations of donations from bike manufacturers, cycle shops, the CCAP, and funds collected during fundraising events organized by the Outdoor Adventure Program.

It is our hope that the anticipated success of these young athletes will benefit not only the individual and their team, but also the regional cycling community, as riders become healthier, happier and more successful in all their endeavors. Their achievements can also serve as a model for other municipalities.

Participants will become part of a multi-school organized school cycling team, where they will have the ability to pursue cycling as an organized high school sport. As the program expands in New Haven, it is planned that discrete high school teams will later be created.

For more information about eligibility, training, guidelines, and fees, visit the Parks website: Download the Flyer
