Police Officer Dan Picagli, 38, died on Saturday, October 21, of injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic on Tuesday, October 17.
Officer Picagli was directing traffic near a construction site on Chapel Street in the Wooster Square section of the city when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries 4 days later.
Officer Picagli had served with the New Haven Police Department for 17 years. He was assigned to the Board of Young Adult Police Commissioners and the Police Athletic League, where he organized athletic camps for city children.
Officer Picagli is survived by his wife, Dee, and three children.
