The Community Patrol Division provides community police services to all ten of New Haven's policing districts, 24 hours, seven days a week. Officers patrol in cars, on foot, horseback, motorcycles, and bicycles. All community officers are charged with reducing those problems that have a direct bearing on the quality of life of citizens. In addition to routine patrols, officers concentrate on things such as motor vehicle violations, excessive noise complaints, liquor violations, thefts, graffiti, and drug hot spots. Every officer is encouraged to use his or her creative problem solving skills to alleviate discord within their assigned neighborhood. Active participation in block watches, management teams and citizen groups is expected to be part of their daily practice. The protection of all individuals is the basic responsibility of every community officer.
